OUR HISTORY
In 1957, Shirley and Peter Bloomfield turned their dream into reality by founding the Newcastle Repertory Club with the help of passionate friends. Today, as Newcastle Theatre Company Inc., their vision continues to thrive.
Our proud history spans from 1957 to the present, built on the passion and hard work of dedicated volunteers. Key contributors include Leslie and the late Bob Wiles, John and Carolyn Franks, and the late Ray Bell, whose efforts were crucial in opening our new theatre in January 2011. The Newcastle Permanent Building Society also provided invaluable financial support.
In 2019, with funding from the NSW Government and support from the Rotary Club of Newcastle Enterprise, our theatre received upgrades to the façade and refurbishment of our laneway. The unwavering support of our patrons and community helped us navigate challenges like the 2019 fire regulations and the COVID-19 shutdowns of 2020 and 2021.
Our vibrant spaces host performances, auditions, rehearsals, play readings, set construction, technical work. With nearly 200 members, we welcome new creatives and theatre enthusiasts alike.
