EVERYTHING MUST GO!
BY: Dez Robertson
Directed by Angela Robertson
Siblings, Marshall and Tess are in the process of settling their late parents’ estate. What better way of offloading household items quickly, they think, than the trusty Saturday morning garage sale. Neither of them is excited about the prospect of a bunch of strangers pawing over their parent’s belongings, but they realise it’s probably the easiest and quickest way to move the generational accumulation of ‘stuff’ they’ve grown up with and taken for granted over the years. Along the way, as items sell, memories are triggered – both good and bad, and secrets are revealed. The idea for Everything Must Go was hatched during our own garage sale a few years ago. As we observed people coming and going and wondered what their stories were, or chatted with them and discovered those stories, we thought it was a great setting to tell this story of ordinary people dealing with what life throws at them and moving on, in their own way and in their own time.
