A BROADCAST COUP
BY: Melanie Tait
Directed by Fran Hodgson
Mike is the undisputed ‘King’ of mid-morning radio. He’s been on a 2-week sabbatical to Fiji (for an Anger Management Program) and can’t wait to pick up where he left off – belittling the Station Manager, flirting with the new young trainee producer and basically saying whatever he wants to whomever he wants. But times are changing and days of chauvinistic men in the workplace are numbered. Jez is a young podcaster and after her next big expose of men behaving badly. Is Mike next on her hit list? Mike can’t believe anyone would come for him, after all he has a loyal fan base, and “everyone” loves him. Or do they… Will his inability to change ultimately be his undoing? Sydney based author Melanie Tait (The Appleton Ladies Potato Race and The Queen’s Nanny) weaves humour
through her biting insight of the world of workplace power imbalance, garnered from her early career in journalism and broadcasting with the ABC.
