Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberly by Lauren Gunderson & Margot Melcan
15 – 30 November
“Mr Darcy sends all the love he can spare from me. You are all to come to Pemberley at Christmas.”
What could be better in the lead-up to Christmas than a Christmas story with the perfect blend of characters that everyone knows and loves – Jane Austen’s Bennet sisters with Messrs Darcy and Bingley, and a brand new story.
This is a feel-good, coming-of-age comedy focused on the much neglected, bookish, middle sister Mary Bennet who is now contemplating the limits of her life as the spinster watching the romantic escapades of her sisters. She says “I grew up with the kindest, cleverest and most beautiful elder sisters in the country and with the loudest, silliest and prettiest younger sisters in the country. I find I still suffer from a lack of definition.”
As the family gathers together for Christmas at Pemberley, an unexpected guest captures Mary’s attention as she entertains hopes for independence and a match on her own terms.
NTC (through Hal Leonard) is pleased to present the Australian premiere of a non-professional production of this recent work based on a classic.
